How much do you love your squash venue(s)?!
One of the necessary assumptions about the effectiveness of crowdsourcing is that there are many more good people in the world than there are bad/mischievous people.
So for every 1 person who wants to, say, introduce false or misleading information into a Wikipedia article, there are 100 persons who want to make it better, make it right.
Our Squash Players App (SPA) database, containing the biggest and best database of squash venues and courts on the planet, is similarly reliant on this assumption.
In order to make an edit to an existing venue, someone has to:
- Download and install the SPA from the Android or Apple app store.
- Create a free membership account.
Thereafter they’re free to make instant edits to any of the existing venues, for the benefit of everyone.
But what if a member abused this privilege? What if, for whatever reason, they falsely changed the number of singles courts for a venue from, say, 10 to 1?
Until today, 23rd Jan 2024, we’d be heavily dependent on the next good person to randomly spot the mistake and fix it up.
Question: Who knows the most about the latest, correct characteristics of a squash venue?
Answer: The people who frequent them most often. And the venue owners and operators, of course!
Question: Using the SPA, how do you “Like” or “Favourite” a venue?
Answer: Find the venue in question in the app, and click the ♥ symbol in the top right-hand corner. To deselect it, just click the ♥ symbol again.
So what’s the big improvement?
We’re now automatically checking for changes to the squash venue data. Every hour, in fact. For every venue with changed data, we automatically send an email to all the members who currently “like” that venue, i.e. have the venue on their list of favourites.
You can see a sample of such an email in the screenshot below.
What this means is that we’re now giving a great deal more help to the good guys to be alerted to changes in the data of the courts they love, so that they can make the necessary fixes or improvements.
THANK YOU GOOD PEOPLE OF THE WORLD!
